My husband Peter and I moved to Hooe on 19th April 1977 when our son Gareth was 5 days old and we have enjoyed living here and all the area has to offer since that date. I was elected as the Wealden District Councillor representing the Conservative Party in May 1999 and it has been a privilege to represent Ninfield and Hooe since then and also Wartling which was added to this ward when the boundary changed in 2003.  I am also a Ninfield Parish Councillor and a Hooe Parish Councillor. Peter is the Vice-Chairman of Hooe Parish Council.

Since 1999 I have served on the Housing and Planning Committees at Wealden and was a Cabinet Member from 2003 - 2012.  I was Deputy Leader and then Leader of the Council, held the Portfolio for Commissioning and Assets and am currently a member of the Community and Environment Scrutiny Committee.

I have been very lucky as my work has taken me across the country working with other local authorities.  This has given me the opportunity to compare how we are performing as a District Council and to learn from others.   I have taken every opportunity to meet with people holding positions of influence and lobby for what we believe is right for Wealden District and my own ward.  I have been able to meet and talk to
Eric Pickles, former Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government,  Grant Shapps,  and Charles Hendry, the former Wealden M.P.  I have regular meetings with our local M.P. Huw Merriman.

This can be a 24/7 full time job and I love it.  However I could not undertake the work without the support of Peter who willingly puts up with meals at odd times, evenings alone or a house full of people.  I regularly use him as a sounding board.  Our son, Gareth, married to Jess with a son, Humphrey  (Humph) and a daughter Persephone  (Persie) is also frequently asked for his opinion.  I am lucky indeed to have such a supportive family.

Having successfully completed the project to provide a safe walking route from the centre of Hooe to the Recreation Ground  we decided to hold a village event to celebrate the achievement.  A group of residents met with the Chairman of Wealden District Council on the Rec and officially opened the path by walking it.  The ribbon was cut by resident John O'Flaherty at the point the old and new footpaths were joined by the short new section and then everyone retired to the village hall for afternoon tea and enjoyed the village exhibition.

I was delighted to have nominated Jim Hoad for a Wealden Community Award for all he has done for Ninfield over the years.   Here he is with John Barnes, Chairman of ESCC, Roger Kent, our late Ninfield P.C. Chairman and me with his award.

We invited Charles Hendry, M.P. for Wealden, to speak at the Wealden Warm Front event which promoted ways of keeping warm in winter.  Here I am with Charles and Cllr Dick Angel who held the Housing Portfolio at that time.

One of the main concerns of local residents is speeding traffc through our villages and the growing number of heavy vehicles using our roads. In response to public concern we organised a Petiton which was signed by 630 residents. Peter, Vice Chairman of Hooe P.C. and I went to Lewes to present it to the Chairman of the County Council and we were met by our two County Councillors, Bill Bentley and Roger Thomas.

I have made many a cup of tea in the Hooe Village Hall over the years! It is a good meeting place to hear News Views (and gossip!)  Roger Thomas and I have just completed the footpath opening walk and are enjoying well earned refreshment.
